Progress: Networking & Portfolio

Networking at the BMA event in Milwaukee was...was helpful in a few ways. One, it was a new experience and if I am to go to another networking event, I won't be so in the dark about the whole event and what takes place.  It takes being outgoing and energetic to get something out of the experience. Which I think I did.  I received a lot of business cards and a few cool connections, including a free press release for the TOMS event.

I also networked a bit at the ACP Conference in Orlando, FL last week and along with some great advice and knowledge, made a connection with a photo/video journalist who gave me some websites of NGOs in Chicago looking for video promotions. (See below) I also realized that it IS possible to get a job in photo/video journalism where I am and with my experience. The ACP conference was confidence boosting, if anything.

Portfolio Ideas:
I will need a basic online presence, SOMETHING on paper, and something digitally to present. I want to have all 3. I will have a very basic portfolio through Wix, a sort of box or binded pages that can be (somewhat) easily replaced and moved around. I don't like boards, I do not feel comfortable presenting on them and don't think my photographs will do well on boards.

I do like printing black ink on black paper with a laser printer-the outcome is similar to a spot varnishing and looks nice with branding/simple images/typography.

I like the idea of putting my portfolio into a newspaper! I want to go into journalism and this could show my writing, editing, photojournalism and design. Videos have to be shown elsewhere. I am not sure how this combination would flow.

I like briefcases! and Wood boxes! Simple box with my name/logo on it. Printed professionally. I DO like printed books. They are awful for replacing pieces of portfolio, but I think they are professional, simple, and in the right circumstances, the best option.
